Applying waxed concrete on tiles provides a uniform surface without joints that will bring modernity to the redecorated room.

A few points should be considered to ensure quality and sustainability of the new coating made of polished concrete:

  • Pay attention to the difference in absorption between the tiles and joints: the resin contained in the waxed concrete is absorbed differently; if no precaution is taken, there is a chance that a visual spectrum (grid pattern) will appear when the waxed concrete is drying
  • The joints are generally hollow: risk of removal of the coating (embossed grid)

To avoid this you can:

  • apply the waxed concrete in three layers at a rate of 3 kg per m²,

or otherwise operate as follows depending on the substrate and its position; these solutions will be more cost-effective:

  • On a wall:
    • Apply the primer on a closed substrate
    • Hide the joints by applying a layer of ARCACEM S2 with a brush at a ratio of 400 grams per m² or some tile adhesive C2E
    • After drying, lightly sand the rough edges (paper 120)
    • Then, apply two layers of polished concrete + finishes (see data sheets)

  • On interior floors:
    • Apply the primer on a closed substrate
    • Hide the joints: with an interior self-leveling smoothing or by clogging the joints with tile adhesive
    • After drying, one should sand any slope (grit paper 120)
    • Then apply two coats of waxed concrete + finishes (see data sheets)

  • On exterior floor: the slope frequently prevents patching
    • Apply the primer on a closed substrate
    • Hide the joints: by applying a general layer of exterior cementitious coating ready lite G over the entire surface (Do not apply outdoor tiling adhesive if it is not covered by tiling); or by patching up the joints with cement rendering only
    • After drying, sand any slope (grit paper 120)
    • Then apply two coats of waxed concrete + finishes (see data sheets)

  • On outdoor or indoor granite, one will apply the granite undercoat (primer on closed substrate), then directly the waxed concrete given the lack of joints
